H.E President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated at the inauguration of the College for the Armed Services and the Police Services on Wednesday (17) in Malay Street, Slave Island "fulfilled a long felt need which will enable Forces and Police personnel to overcome terrorism with peace of mind".
H E President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that "parents are frustrated when admitting their children to prestigious schools. This is even more critical in the case of Armed Forces and Police personnel serving in 'operational areas, despite a fixed allocation set aside for them. This school fits in with the concepts envisaged in he Mahinda Chintaana for the welfare of war heroes". He said that on a 2006 – 2007 world report based on quality standards grading, our school system has been placed in the 57th position, from a total of 125 countries.
H.E The President noted that "this great institution reserved for the children of the armed forces, would be managed by administrators of the highest caliber, characterized and distinguished by their unique sense of discipline and the blessings of the three Armed Forces and the Police. This school will elicit the hidden talents of the students, impart a broad -based education and instill in them great qualities to produce men and women of integrity and honour, who would be a shining example to the rest of the school network". He added that "For the betterment of our nation, I make a fervent appeal to the school's teaching staff, to take the role of the father and the mother of these children. Their parents, who are deployed on duty, may be isolated from these children for long periods".
