Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Sarath Fonseka has written to the Sri Lankan Mission in Washington saying that he has been asked by US officials to give evidence against Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa over alleged human rights abuses, a highly placed diplomatic source said.
Two US officials had reportedly contacted the CDS on his son-in-law’s telephone to make the request, General Fonseka had said in his letter.
