this wont work if the 2 parties are not in the same Network, wich means you wont be able to get the other one's IP if both of you connects to the internet from different networks.
Yahoo chat and file sharing works like below :

PC1 <----->Yahoo server <----->PC2

did you try this ?
When I tried it with yahoo over the net (both Pc on completely different networks) it connets only to yahoo server.
