The Nagpada police arrested five people outside the City Centre Mall in Mumbai Central for possessing and using 30 fake credit cards. The accused include two Sri Lankan nationals.
“We arrested Rajendran Subbarai, Imran Shaikh, Mohammad Salim Shaikh along with two Sri Lankans, Rajan Selvarajan and Ahilan Kanankiran. The two Sri Lankans were called from Tamil Nadu and promised jobs here.
They were only living with the other three. I don’t believe they are involved in the scam in any way,” said Sub-Inspector A Azgaonkar of Nagpada police station, who added that the credit cards are of Citi Bank, HSBC and Standard Chartered banks.
“We have not yet ascertained the size of the fraud or know if the cards belong to someone or are in fictitious names. This is being verified with the banks,” said Azgaonkar. All accused have been remanded to police custody till May 17.
