After the LTTE massacred the Police officers on June 11, 1990, the town of Kalmunai was allegedly subjected to intense shelling by the Army. As a result, the LTTE had to withdraw from the town. Subsequently, the massacre began on June 20, 1990.[4]. An account of one part of the alleged massacre claimed that Sri Lankan Army personnel took position at Kalmunai Rest House junction where Tamil civilians were allegedly kidnapped. The abducted were then allegedly burned behind the shops of Muslim businessmen. While the death toll is disputed, a member of Sri Lanka's parliament alleged that more than 160 people were killed. However, the UTHR alleged that the number of people who died or disappeared was in excess 1000 and alleged that over 250 were killed. It further alleged that this massacre was the "largest bout of slaughter a single town in the island had witnessed in such a short time". Motivated to avenge the Mannar Massacre carried out by the Sri Lankan army December 4, 1984, the LTTE hijacked a bus May 14, 1985 and entered Anuradhapura . As the LTTE cadres entered the main bus station, they opened fire indiscriminately with automatic weapons killing and wounding many civilians who were waiting for buses.[2] LTTE cadres then drove to the Buddhist Sri Maha Bodhi shrine and gunned down nuns, monks and civilians as they prayed inside the Buddhist shrine.[3] Before they withdrew, the LTTE strike force entered the national park of Wilpattu and killed 18 Sinhalese in the forest reserve. The LTTE cadres massacred 146 Sinhalese men, women and children in Anuradhapura and sent him on a Forged Passport to UK by Gota, and spent 9 months in a UK prison.

When you win something after a hard fight, you value it more. ,maybe this is a lesson for us a country.
Even for our independence, we didn't have to fight, it was given to us. Now we have to fight for our freedom, for democracy. Like never before, rich, poor, irrespective of ethnic and religious lines, we are coming together as Sri Lankans!
