How to safeguarde the Truth? (Sathyaya rakinne keseda? )

Can one decide something he/she believes in is the Truth and everything else is Not?
How cautious one should be if he/she wants to make such a decision?
This is from the Buddhist canon: "Canki sutta" and not to offend friends with other faiths.
Although the Sutta has Buddhist context what presented in the Sutta does not contain much Buddhist concepts;
therefore anyone may easily follow it.
It merely highlights how one may cautiously decide something as the Truth ruling out some others...
